A COUPLE OF SEASONS FIRST’S HAPPENED TODAY.
THE TALENTED HAWKS DROP THEIR FIRST DEUCE OF THE SEASON AND THE AARP WINGS WIN THEIR FIRST DEUCE OF THE SEASON! HOW BOUT THAT!
SHARKS 4 FLYERS 1
Mr. Nate McCoughrty with all four Sharks tallies – that about sums it up! Donnie Rivera says: “Just get the puck to the big guy” as Donnie records three helpers. A relatively light workload for Sharks puck stopper Billy Mac Jr. Mike Nalepa with the Flyers lone marker.
WINGS 5 HAWKS 4
The marquee game of the night! The previous two meetings between these two teams the Hawks have absolutely dominated by a combined score of 13-2! Not today – as Wings center Brian Moore takes a beautiful breakaway pass from left defenseman Steve Wink and goes backhand for the game winner with 50 seconds left in the contest! Fired up after recently being CUT from Superman’s Sunday team – “Angry” Joey Ventimiglia with the trick for the Wings. Left wing “Downtown” Jimmy Brown also with a goal. Muddy with a very solid game between the pipes. But – the star of this game in my opinion was Hawks goalie Kirk “Captain America” Larson, who must have stopped 50 in this contest! The Hawks never got the puck out of their zone in the first period. Hawks – John Shelton, Steve “Mario” Lemieux, Joey Reiss – on a nice backhand and sub Chas Kipp. No trips to the sin bin for either squad.
BRUINS 5 HABS 5
A wide open game as the score indicates. The Habs relinquish a 5-3 lead late in the final period. The Bruins score twice in the last 4 minutes to salvage the tie. Mike “King of the Road” Miller with the deuce for the Bruins. Singles for Chuck Bowers, John McNeilly(Also 3 Helpers) and finally appearing following golf season – Benny Hudson. The Frenchmen receive two goal games from Dougie Roehl and Steve Bittner. Moncton call up Scott Davenport with the Habs final marker. No penalties for either team.
HABS 2 HAWKS 1
A well played game as both goalies – Dar and Kirk Larson shine in nets! Steve Bittner and subbing for Bryan Prentice – Scott Davenport tally for the Habs, who are now unbeaten in their last two doubleheaders. The speedy Steve Lemieux with the Hawks goal. Habs defenseman Pierre Dugas gets away with one, as he pulls the puck out of his own net, without either referee noticing!
SHARKS 4 BRUINS 2
Whoa! A Michigan Sting first as Sharks stud center Nate McCoughty once again scores all of his teams four goals! Four goals in each game today for Dr. Nate! For you math wizards – that’s 8 on the night! Very impressive indeed! To top it off, Nate was not even the top forward taken in the draft! Imagine that! The Sharks vault into the top spot in the standings with their doubleheader sweep today. Mike Miller and Jimmy “Jets” Galloway score for the men in yellow.
WINGS 6 FLYERS 1
The Wings completely dominate this game as they sweep for the day! Brian Moore with the trick for the Wings. Sub Steve Bayagich with the deuce. Joey Ventimiglia with the Wings first marker. The frustrated Mike Riddle with the Flyers goal. Flyers goaler Billy Schaugg was simply outstanding in nets as he continually couldn’t find his Amber Alert defenseman. Scahugg foiled four stone cold breakaways and made numerous other highlight reel saves! The Flyers were missing their Captain and fiery catalyst today – Billy “The Dark” Knight – and it showed, as they just score just once per game and lose two.
