FINAL WEEK – PLAYOFFS
HAWKS 4 SHARKS 1
Sharks up one zip entering the final stanza on a rebound tap in from Jimmy “Boog” Powell. The Hawks rip off four consecutive final period goals for the W. James George with a a two goal game and also a solo roughing minor penalty. Bruce “Cooler Man” Gooel and sub Al “Mike” Phipps round out the Hawks scoring. Hawks net-minder “Sugar” John Marchin with an exemplary games in nets.
WINGS 4 BRUINS 2
The Wings score the games only two goals in the final period to snap a 2-2 tie. Grand Rapids call up Bob “Bugsy” Watson with a two goal game. Singles for Al Sparks and Brian Belloli. Adam Godard and sub Timmy “Dutch” Schultz with the Bruins markers.
FLYERS 5 HABS 1
As it turns out – this is a preview of next weeks championship contest! The Flyers start the second period of a 1-1 tie with Stevie Lambert scoring his first of two goals seven ticks into the final period and John Zuccarini scoring a couple of minutes later. Sniper Ronnie Meltsner also with a two goal game. Goal-keep Mike Mostyn kept the door shut except for Mike Ala’s goal. “Gentleman” Don Courtley(Holding) and Gerry Krause(Interference) march off to the sin bin together.
HAWKS 3 HABS 2
Despite a double dip defeat today – the Frenchmen live on for next week’s championship contest. Playoff scoring leader Jimmy George with all of the Hawks goals! “Bruising” Joe Grusling and Peter Gibb score for the Habs.
SHARKS 4 WINGS 1
Barry Piornack leads the Fish with a two goal game. Chris Zanke and Jimmy Powell with singles. Goaler Brain Miller was outstanding between the pipes. Pat Collins with the lone Wings goal. Wings enforcer Randy Debuel picks up simultaneous hooking and roughing minor penalties in conjunction with Steve Orr’s roughing minor.
FLYERS 3 BRUINS 1
How bout that! After a dominating one loss season, the Flyers make a very nice late playoff push to play the Habs next week in a winner take all – Sam Cupp Championship game! Stevie Lambert scores 10 seconds into the contest for the Flyers. Big Ben Haynes with the Flyers final two markers. Once again, goaltender Mike Mostyn only allows one puck to enter his net. Eddie “The Eagle” Higgins with the Bruins goal.
