Young sub center Kalvin produces the deuce for the Flyers. Singles for the Mikes – Miller, T. Brown and Brian Moore. Robbie Olmstead, Marty Papesh and Hungarian sub Granowicz score for the Hawks. Former teammates – Flyers net-minder Kirk “Captain America” Larson and Hawks Captain John “Shifty” Shelton get into a “How Do You Do” and exchange unpleasantries. It was definitely not “Happy Birthday” as today was John’s birthday! The Flyers were without defenseman Lloyd Rogers today due to work obligations. After just under a three year quasi-retirement, Lloyd was given an ultimatum by his wife! “Get a job or I’m also retiring!” Lloyd got a job!
BRUINS 5 WINGS 4
Bruins jump out to a 5-0 lead only to see the Wings roar back with four unanswered final period goals and almost tie the game up! Chuck Bowers with two goals for the Bruins. Singles for John McNeilly and sub Mike Folster. Wings – Mike Nalepa with the hat trick and Rob Rowling.
HABS 7 SHARKS 4
Don’t know what it is? The Habs have played the talent laden Sharks three times this season and have defeated them all three times! Hmm! Laval call up Mr. Mark Norrington with a huge four goal! Moved up from defense today to right wing – Dougie Roehl, Larry “Schoolboy” Rowe and sub Paul Elsey with singles. Billy Mac Jr. with the Sharks first two goals early in the first period. The Jimmy’s – Brown and Galloway also score for the Fish. No trips to the sin bin for either team.
BRUINS 6 HAWKS 2
The Bruins sweep for the day behind the hat trick efforts of right winger Craig Bastuba. John McNeilly with the deuce. John Cornish also with a marker. Comeback player of the year candidate Robbie Olmstead and Timmy “Dutch” Schultz score for the beleaguered Hawks who are now 0-9-1 in their past ten games!
HABS 7 FLYERS 3
The Flyers have dominated the Frenchmen their past three outings – not today! Habs sub Mark Norrington scores his first of two goals 17 ticks into the game and fellow center Bryan Prentice scores two of his three goals in a 14 second span to put the Habs up 3-0 early in the game! The Flyers proceed to score four first period goals to take a 4-3 lead entering the final period! The Frenchmen break the game open in the final period for their sweep today and a first place tie with the Sharks. Rob “Rickie” Middleton and Pierre Dugas with French goals. Flyers slick center Brian Moore with the hat trick! His second goal was a beautiful drag move on the defenseman and then buries the puck 5-hole! Left defenseman Danny Rea and sub Kalvin with singles. Mike “King of the Road” Miller with a four helper game. Flyers goaler Kirk Larson took a final period blast from Pierre Dugas off his face mask and was drowsy the remainder of the game. Bryan Prentice backhands the rebound into the net and says “I Almost Feel Bad about Scoring that Goal!” The key word here is “Almost!” A Funkesque moment happened in this game as Flyers defenseman Pat “The Beast” Wosek blindly whirls around at his blue line and blasts a no look slap-shot right in the face of teammate Steve Bittner five feet away! Thank God for masks! It would have been ugly!
SHARKS 5 WINGS 4
Wings jump to a 3 zip lead, but the Sharks prevail to keep pace for the battle of first place with the Habs. All over the ice in this game – “Downtown” Jimmy Brown with the hat trick in a dominant performance! Billy Mac Jr.(Also 3 Helpers) and sub Mike Ala also with Shark goals. Ryan Boyette(2), Joey Reiss and Eddie Sudzina light the lamp for the Wings. The Wings swept a doubleheader last week with 15 total goals! Today the Jekyll and Hyde team lose a deuce!
