Summoned from the far reaches of the Greece league – Sharks sub Athanas with the hat trick!  Singles for Jim Chapie, Al Phipps and Gary Szylanski.  Sniper turned facilitator – Ronnie Meltsner with the hat trick assist.  Captain Pat Collins, Pete Gibb(SH) and Donald Courtley score for the Hawks.  Sharks sub Jim “Vin” Scully and Pat Collins get into a scrum and both receive roughing minor penalties.

FLYERS   4    WINGS   1

The Flyers score three times in the final period for the W.  Bobby Halbhuber, Chuck Mouraine, Ryan O’Rourke and sub Lawson score for the Flyers.  Goaler Mike Schlimgen stood tall in nets.  Mark Smyth was the only Wing to solve Schlimgen.

BRUINS   6     HAWKS   1

Da Bruins rattle off five final period goals to send the Hawks to a double dip defeat.  Deuces wild for Bo Altherr and JP.  Robbie Porter and Al Sparks with singles.  Playing a fine game in nets and also picking up an assist was sub goaler Lipschotz.  Randy Debuel with the lone Hawks marker in this penalty free game.

FLYERS   3    HABS   1

The top spot Flyers score twice in the games last five minutes to snap a 1-1 tie.  Billy Hagen with the game winning goal – his second of the game.  Chuck Mouraine added the insurance marker.  Another fine game in nets for Flyers puck stopper Mike Schlimgen.  Kenny “Prime Time” Wilkins with Habs tally.

SHARKS   6    HABS   4

The Sharks sweep for the day and are undefeated in their past two doubleheaders despite still residing in last place.  Deuces wild for Gary Szylanski and Greek sub Athanas.  Singles for Chris Zanke and sub “Vin” Scully.  John Perini, Brian Cook, Bruce Gooel and Steve Lemieux score for the Frenchmen.

WINGS   4    BRUINS   1

The Wings jump out to a 4 zip lead and cruise to the victory.  Mark Smyth with a two goal game.  Ray “Dog” Tonelli with his second goal of the season.  Wings sub Glen Paraskevin also with a goal.  More on Glen later.  Puck stopper Mike Allemon was outstanding between the pipes.  Adam Godard with the lone Wings goal.  Most of you probably don’t know the family history of sub Glen Paraskevin.  Let me enlighten you!  Growing up in the shadows of the State Fairgrounds in Detroit, Glen is the older brother of Kenny and Connie.  Kenny played for Ron Mason at Michigan State and was the final 1980 Olympic cut by Herb Brooks.  Connie is a retired professional track cyclist and speed skater.  She is a four times sprint world champion and ten times national sprint champion and an olympic bronze medalist.  At the age of 19 she was a member of the 1980 USA Winter Olympic speed taking team, but did not compete.  In 1984 she did compete in the Winter Olympics.  Quite a talented family!   I’ve been fortunate to be a teammate of Kenny’s in various Ontario tournaments and it was a pleasure to be a teammate of his.
