“R” LEAGUE WEEKLY UPDATE – JULY 5, 2022

A senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the dealership. Taking off down the road, he floored it to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little gray hair he had left. Amazing, he thought as he flew down I-94, pushing the pedal even more.

Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a state trooper behind him, lights flashing and siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mph, then 110, then 120. Suddenly he thought, What am I doing? I’m too old for this, and pulled over to await the trooper’s arrival.

Pulling in behind him, the trooper walked up to the Corvette, looked at his watch, and said, “Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a reason for speeding that I’ve never heard before, I’ll let you go.”

The old gentleman paused. Then he said, “Years ago, my wife ran off with a state trooper. I thought you were bringing her back.”

“Have a good day, sir,” replied the trooper.

0-0 entering the final period, Don Courtley netting the game wining goal.  Ken Debus and sub right wing Al Phipps with singles.  The Habs played with three D this game.  But it definitely was the right three D!  Jimmy George and on a nice redirect tip, power play specialist Curt Lesnau tally for the Wings.  2022 NHL All star and twice a 40 goal scorer, Chicago Black Hawks forward Alex Debrincat(See Picture Below) and his infant son were in attendance watching Dad and Grandpa Dave!

Deuces wild for Marcin Niecalek and sub Mike Garlick.  Steve Orr and Mark Smyth also score for the Hawks.  Bruce Gooel and sub Jeff Funk score for the Fish in this penalty free game.  A special callout to Sharks sub Mark Munsterman, who is back playing after serious heart issues!

BRUINS   4     FLYERS   1

Steve “Mario” Lemieux leads his Bruins with a two goal game.  Singles for Chuck Mouraine and sub Gary Velazquez.  Goaler Mike Schlimgen with a relatively light workload.  Lehigh callup LeWis scores for the Flyers in this penalty free game.

The top spot Hawks just keep on winning!  Sub Mike Garlick with a two goal game.  Singles for Mark Smyth and Marcin Niecalek.  Former Albion College football nose tackle Ryan O’Rourke and sub LeWis score for the Flyers who drop a deuce today.

BRUINS   6     WINGS   3

The Bruins are now undefeated in their past nine games and still can’t gain ground on the first place Hawks!  Winger Robbie Porter scores twice for the Bruins.  Singles for the league’s leading scorer Chuck Mouraine(Also 3 Helpers), Steve Lemieux, Doug Roehl and sub Gary Velazquez.  Wings – Paul Vioalssi(2) and sub Mike Harke.

SHARKS   7    HABS   2

Da Sharks score six times in the initial stanza and rout the Frenchmen.  Gary Szlanski, Doug Beck and Ben Haynes all with two goal games!  Bruce Gooel also with a goal.  Jeff Tracy and David Herkowitz score for the Habs.
