FINAL WEEK – PLAYOFFS

HABS   2    FLYERS   1

The Frenchmen play a great game and turn into the spoiler role in perfect fashion!  Sub goalie “Ticker” Chauvin was pumped up going into the game, as he raised his performance level this game!  Jeff Tracy and Adam Godard with the game winning goal, score for the Habs.  Robert Stempian goes top shelf for the Flyers.  But – the story of this game was the pregame caucus that occurred.

Last week, Flyers enforcer Paulie Polizzi had received a 5 minute penalty for Head Contact and then a Game Misconduct.  He reported to the rink to play today.  Referee’s Seisser and Galazka objected, due to last Tuesday’s Game Misconduct, stating he should be suspended at least for the first game today.  Captain O’Rourke and Polizzi left the rink to find Ryan Boyette in the “A” pickup skate, to possibly find a replacement.  After much deliberation with other “Powers to Be” Polizzi did play the two games.  By the way – this was a penalty free game!

BRUINS   6    WINGS   1

The Bruins run roughshod over the Wings.  Deuces wild for Chuck Mouraine and Joe Plati.  Steve Lemieux and sub Mark Oyama with singles.  Right defenseman Dougie Roehl with the hat trick assist.  Wings sub Todd Schurman ruins Bruins goaler Mike Schlimgen shutout, scoring with 38 ticks left on the arena clock.

HAWKS   4    SHARKS   1

The Hawks put a serious dent in the Sharks Championship game aspirations with a solid victory.  Goalie Tommy Gazley once again shined in nets for the Hawks.  Marcin Niecalek, Brian Belloli and subs “Hans” Brinker and Mike Garlick(SH) score for the Hawks.  Doug “Jeff Beck” strums in the lone Shark goal as he hums the song “Freeway Jam”!

HAWKS   4     HABS   3

The top spot Hawks score two power play goals and a shorthanded marker to continue on their Championship path.  Marcin Niecalek(PP), Mark Smyth, Brian Belloli(SH) and sub Matt Linnell(PP) tally for the the Hawks.  The Frenchmen play another strong game as Ken Debus(2) and Jeff Tracy were their marksman.  Debus and Mark Smyth both pick up roughing minor infractions.

SHARKS   7     WINGS   4

The Sharks play next week!  Deuces wild for General Robert E. Lee, Ben Haynes and Doug Beck.  Bruce Gooel also scores.  Gooel did something this game, I haven’t seen since watching Gordie Howe play.  Receiving a pass as he switches hands and then making a perfect on the tape pass!  The Wings needed to either tie or win to get the Bruins into the Championship game.  Didn’t happen.  Playing a great game for the Wings – Paul Violassi with the trick!  Bruce Buntin with a single, as the underwhelming Wings season mercifully comes to an end.

BRUINS   3   FLYERS   2

The Bruins do their part with the victory, but lose on the goals for tie breaker, to play next week.  Rick Batchelder, Steve Lemieux and Dougie Roehl score for the men in yellow.  Goalie Mike Schlimgen was outstanding in nets.  Pat Berry and Robert Stempian(SH) tally for the Flyers.  This game was anything but a penalty free game, as ten penalties in all were called.  The Flyers incur two, too many men on the ice penalties.  Barry Piornack of the Flyers receives a checking minor penalty as Chuck Mouraine takes exception and chops him back, as both hit the box.

Who is the all time goalie wins leader for the Montreal Canadians?
Carey Price set the record in 2019, passing Jacques Plante.
