CONGRATS TO THE MICHIGAN STING 60 AND OVER PORT HURON TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS LAST WEEKEND!

SEE PICTURE BELOW.

THE TEAM WENT 3-0 SCORING 14 GOALS AND ALLOWING ZERO!!

TOMMY GAZLEY NEVER LET A PUCK GET BEHIND HIM!

CONGRATS BOYS!

HAWKS   4     FLYERS   2

Continuing his fine play of last weekend’s Port Huron Tournament, goalie Tommy Gazley shines in nets this game for the Hawks!  Getting some much needed offensive output – Mark Smyth, Tom Oswald and returning from his secret two week hold out Sammy Bonanno and always relishing when he scores against his former team the Flyers, who gave him his unconditional release last season – power winger Jeff Morton score for the Hawks.  Ryan O’Rourke and Robert Stempian tally for the Flyers.

BRUINS  6    WINGS   0

A must win for the Bruins if they want to catch the top spot Wings.  Total domination this game, as the turning point was the two goals the Bruins scored in the last 19 seconds of the first period!  Steve “Mario” Lemieux with the trick!  Line-mate and the league’s leading scorer Chuck Mouraine with the deuce.  Left winger Bo Altherr also with a goal.  Bruins goalie Mike Schlimgen with a relatively light workload for the shutout.  No Wings highlights.

SHARKS   2    HABS   1

A well played defensive battle, as winning goalie Brian Miller and Habs sub “Ticker” Chauvin put on a goaltending show for the empty arena!  Ben Haynes and Todd Schurman tally for the Fish.  Sub Ken Debus finds the back of the net for the Habs.

BRUINS   2     HAWKS   0

A rare occurrence in any league, when you get the double shutout!  Hats off to goalie Mike Schmligen, who was like a DS in volleyball today, as he absorbed every shot with no rebounds allowed.  Not to overlook the hot glove hand he also had working!  Mike’s biggest save of the game was the shorthanded breakaway stop on Mark Smyth while the game was still 1-0.  Steve Lemieux scores on a beautiful cross grain top shelf blazing slap shot that no goalie anywhere would have stopped!  Still in the Halloween spirit and dressed as a hockey player – Curt Lesnau with a huge insurance goal.  This was a revenge game for the Hawks, after getting lit up last time the two teams met.  They played well!

WINGS   1    SHARKS   1

The battle for first place, as both teams are now tied for first place!  The Wings make a tactical lineup change and move their sub, who was playing defense in the first game, back to his normal forward position and Bruce Gooel to D.  It worked!  Winger Mike Harke with the Wings goal.  Steve Dietrich scores for the Sharks.  Both goalies – Dave Gaskey of the Wings and Brian Miller of the Sharks were excellent in nets!  This was a penalty free game.

FLYERS   6     HABS   2

The Flyers right the ship behind the natural hat trick efforts of Robert Stempian!  Ryan O’Rourke and power play specialist Paulie Polizzi with singles.  Returning from parts unknown – Flyers sub goalie Mike Mostyn with a solid game between the pipes!  Mike Ala and John Perini tally for the Frenchmen who are now winless in their past seven games.

Name the first European Captain to win a Stanley Cup?

The Red Wings own Nick Lidstrom.
