PLAYOFFS – WEEK TWO

SHARKS   6     WINGS   3

1-1 entering the final stanza, then the flood gates opened.  Captain Mark Micolo of the Sharks with the trick.  Singles for Ward Peterson, sub Mark Rogers and returning from last week’s injury – more on that later – “Angry” Joey Ventimiglio.  Paul Violassi goes twine twice for the Wings.  Ian Axworthy with their final goal.  Now back to “Angry”, who injured his foot two week’s ago on vacation in Cabo, doing a physical activity that he normally does not do.  Now I learned my lesson a long time ago, at our age  – when you’re on vacation, don’t start doing stuff that you normally don’t do – you’re going to get hurt!  The only new activity I do on vacation, is work my up to the swim-up bar!

FLYERS   2    BRUINS   2

Old time playoff hockey at its best!  Bruins puck stopper Kris “King” Arthur and Flyers sub Rodney Heid(With His Oversized Pads) were spectacular in nets!  Ron Nanney and Rob Rowling score for the Bruins.  Young Flyers sub Mark Micolo Jr. with both of their goals.  This was a penalty free game.

HABS   5     HAWKS   3

The French guys play a strong fundamental game and clip the Hawks.  Deuces wild for actor Brian Dennehy lookalike(See Picture Below) Jamie Smith and sub Brian Barker.  Paul “The Night of the Living Dead” Erikson also with a goal.  Brian Moore scores twice for the Hawks.  Mike Garlick with their middle marker.

SHARKS   5     BRUINS   3

As in game one – Captain Mark Micolo leads his Sharks who sweep on the day, with the trick – scoring an even strength, power play and empty net goals!  Also – as in game one – Ward “Weren’t You a Little Hard on the Beaver Last Night” Peterson and sub Mark Rogers with goals.  Swifty(See Picture Below) Rob Rowling scores twice for the top spot Bruins.  Jim Bulgarelli with their initial goal.

FLYERS   6    HAWKS   3

The newly formed MON line – of sub Mark Micolo Jr.(4 & 1), Rob Olmstead(1 & 3) and Mike Nalepa(1 & 4) total 14 points in the game as they send the Hawks to a double dip defeat today.  Mike Riddle with the hat trick assist.  Scott Kostesich, Brian Moore and Waz Sarweh tally for the Hawks.  Each team took three trips to the box.  Pierre Dugas of the Hawks and Mike Riddle of the Flyers take turns chopping each other and hit the box in tandem.  Next period – Riddle incurs a solo roughing minor penalty.  Guess that Cabo vacation engerized him!

HABS   5    WINGS   2

The Habs sweep on the day, as the Wings remain winless in the playoffs.  Paul Elsey Jr. scores twice for the Habs.  Singles for Steve Bayagich – who grew up in Warren with Paul Jr’s. Dad Paul Sr., Jamie Smith and Joey Reiss.  Sub goalie T. Parker with a light workload.  Scott Chodun with both Wings goals.  Now to the fireworks.  Seconds into the final period, Dave Rupprecht of the Wings thought the ref should have called a penalty on a Habs player.  Rupprecht continued his verbal displeasure towards the ref and picks up a two minute unsportsmanlike penalty.  He continues to chirp and incurs a ten minute misconduct.  Not done yet -Dave continues his rant and slams the penalty box door and receives an abuse of officials penalty and a head start on the locker room cooler.  Whew!

The three Plager brothers — Barclay, Bob & Bill — played together with the St. Louis Blues between 1968 and 1972.

Name me the second trio of brothers who played on the same team.

Not the Blues team.

No – It’s not the Sutters!  Lol!

The Stastnys — Marian, Peter, Anton — became the second trio of brothers together in the early 1980s with the Quebec Nordiques.
