CONGRATS TO SAM CUPP CHAMPIONSHIP FLYERS!

FLYERS  7   HABS  5

This game was exactly what you wanted in a Championship game, in one of, if not the most talented senior leagues in the state of Michigan!  What a burn burner!  The Habs jump out to a 3-0 lead on two goals from Greg Stacey and a rocket from Jeff Steiber!  They were feeling good about themselves especially with Kris “King” Arthur patrolling the net!  Then the  Flyers Trevor Wrobel(PP) and Jamie Smith score in a four minute span at the end of the second period.  It stayed 3-2 Habs for almost the rest of the game!  The Flyers call a timeout with 22 seconds left in the game to get the guns out!  With goalie Brian Miller watching from the bench, the slimmed down “Angry” Joey Ventimiglio buries the game tying goal with 15 seconds remaining on the arena clock!  Whoa!  The five minute OT period is scoreless.  It now comes down to the shootout.  Greg Stacey and Jeff Steiber score for the Habs.  Jamie Smith, Trevor Wrobel, and this defenseman who always converts on a shootout – Ryan Boyette score.  Now with the crowd on its feet – another player who I have never seen not convert on a breakaway, gingerly skates toward the opposition’s net and MVP “Angry” Joe scores the game clinching goal as pandemonium ensues on the ice!  Great epic ending to the season!  A good time was had by all postgame at Joe Kools!

Who was the first hockey player to win an olympic gold medal and the Stanley Cup in the same year?
