Jeff Jackson Earns USA Hockey Distinguished Achievement Award

JEFF FRONT AND CENTER – MYSELF BACK LEFT ON
JEFF’S BOAT ON BREVOORT LAKE IN MACKINAC COUNTY.
CONGRATS ROSEVILLE NATIVE JEFF!
BRUINS   3    HABS   1
Scoreless entering the final stanza.  Then Billy Reiss backhands an early final period shift goal to give the Habs the 1-0 lead.  The Bruins claw back with three goals in a four minute span for the W!  Steve Bayagich, Rob Rowling and Cris Lidstrom score for the Bruins.  Goaler Chris MacDonald with an excellent game between the pipes!
SHARKS   4    FLYERS   4
How bout this!  Johnny O. scores the last minute game tying goal, while teammate Jeff Funk watches in the penalty box!  Funk also with a goal.  More on Funk below.  Charlie Eslinger and Trevor Wrobel also score.  Sniper John Poolton scores twice for the Sharks.  Singles for Craig Bastuba and Richie Artymovich.

Since Funk scored again, time for another true Funk story.  25 years ago I was on a 35 and over slap shot very good Monday night team, simply called the Angels at Mt. Clemens.  We won most of our games and won numerous tournaments throughout Ontario. Below is part of our roster.

Terry Boyette – Played for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and with and against future NHL stars.

Mark Rogers – Played for Alabama Huntsville under the legendary coach Doug Ross and participated in a Detroit Red WIng tryout.

Ken Paraskevin – Played for Ron Mason at MIchigan State and was the final 1980 Olympic cut from coach Herb Brooks.

Darryl Dipace – Another Spartan who played for Ron Mason.

Ron Angel – Storied high school defenseman who shined at Birmingham Brother Rice HS.

Rick Valencourt – Played in the OHL.

Scott Davenport – Only participated in our tournaments.

So, one season Funk was a new member of our team.  Jeff was a tremendous pro style skater!

But he had one glaring weakness – he would NOT pass the puck!

The “Funkster” lasted the season’s first five games and was told by management not to return. – LOL!

WINGS   9   HAWKS   6
OMG!  This was a wild one!  Hawks go up 6-1 – only to see the Wings roar back and score 8 final period goals for the W!  Are you kidding me?  Normally I don’t mention the goalies in this type of game.  But at the handshake line, winning goalie Billy Papciak and Brian Miller of the Hawks vowed to “Let’s never speak about this game again!”  Lol!  Hat tricks for Trevor Knight and sub Rowe for the Wings.  “Midtown” Mikey Brown, Scott Chodun and Jeff Steiber also score.  Larry “School Boy” Rowe with three assists.  Hawks sub young Chase Riddle scores twice.  Singles for Dad Mike, “Angry” Joe, Eddie Sudzina and Joe Robillard.  It’s always a good thing when a Dad and son/daughter can play together on the same ice.  Especially at this level.  This game we had Dad Larry Rowe and son and Dad Billy Knight and son Trevor for the Wings and Dad Mike and son Chase for the Hawks.  Pretty awesome!  Hawks defenseman Shane McKibben incurs a tripping penalty and voices his displeasure and also picks up a ten minute unsportsmanlike conduct infraction.
SHARKS   4     BRUINS   3
Game tied 3-3 at the end of one period.  Sharks sub Paul Violassi snaps the tie with just under two minutes remaining in the game!  Richie Artymovich goes twine twice for the Fish.  John Poolton also with a goal.  Bruins – Cris Lidstrom and the Robs – Rowling and Olmstead.
HAWKS   4    HABS   3
Another 4-3 game, as Dad Mike Riddle told son Chase – “Don’t hold back!”  The high level of hockey Chase has played, stood out today as he records the trick this game with two shorthanded goals and one power play goal!  Sub Mrachina also scored.  Habs – Billy Reiss, Ken Kasper and Anthony Amato.
FLYERS   6    WINGS   3
Two goal games for Johnny O., Charlie Eslinger and sub Billy Degan as the Flyers drop the Wings.  Trevor Knight scores twice for the Wings.  Sub Rowe with their final goal.
Four NHL players have won nine or more Stanley Cups.
Who are they?
Hint – All four played for the same team and three are in the HOF.
MONTREAL CANADIANS
Henri Richard – 11 Cups
Jean Beliveau – 10 Cups
Yvan Cournoyer – 10 Cups
Claude Provost – 9 Cups – not in the HOF.
