AN UNUSUAL DAY IN THE “A” LEAGUE TODAY, AS THREE TEAMS – THE HABS, WINGS AND LEAFS SWEEP!
CONVERSELY, THE OTHER THREE TEAMS – STARS, HAWKS AND BRUINS DROP A DEUCE!
HABS 7 BRUINS 3
2-1 Bruins entering the final stanza. The Frenchmen proceed to rifle in six final period goals for the decisive victory. Big Sting rookie Bob Rowling with the tour du chapeau. Singles for Paul Violassi, Brian Moore, Robbie Olmstead and sub Scott Davenport. The Bruins receive goals from sniper Craig Bastuba(2) and Mike T. Brown.
WINGS 3 HAWKS 2
Shifty winger Steve Bayagich scores all the Wings goals in this very entertaining contest. Wings puck stopper Dar with his usual solid game in nets. Returning from parts unknown – sub Superman with a yeoman’s effort between the pipes for the Hawks. Center Nate McCaughtry with both Hawks tallies.
LEAFS 4 STARS 1
On the games third shift, Leafs center Jeff Ivory buries a one timer on a perfect tape to tape pass from Joey Reiss. Problem is – their not on the same team! Stars goaler Billy Schaugg was heard muttering something about color blindness. “Angry” Joey Ventimiglio with a two goal game. Mike Nalepa with a five hole laser. Leafs puck stopper Billy Mac Jr. with a stellar game in nets. Danny Rea with a beautiful top shelf water bottle goal for the Stars in this penalty free game.
HABS 6 HAWKS 3
The powerhouse Habs score two shorthanded goals and put a hurt on the Hawks. Center Brian Moore with a two goal game. Singles for Paul Vioalssi, Kyle Lybecker, Bob Rowling and sub Scott Davenport. McCaughtry, Dougie Roehl and JP score for the Hawks.
LEAFS 4 BRUINS 2
The Leafs send the woebegone Bruins to their third straight doubleheader defeat. Unfortunately for the Bruins, it appears Curt’s Corner preseason preview about this Bruins team is spot on. Jeff Ivory, Mike Nalepa, Joey Ventimiglio and Newmarket call up Danny Caton score for the Leafs. Ryan Boyette with a perfect short side top shelf goal and Steve “Mario” Lemieux on a great feed from Don Rivera tally for the men in yellow. No trips to the sin bin for either squad.
WINGS 5 STARS 4
The top spot Wings win their fifth consecutive game as they dim the Stars. “Downtown” Jimmy Brown with the deuce. Singles for Steve Bayagich, John McNelly, Scott Bozyk and Mike Wilson. After reeling off two straight doubleheader wins, the Stars drop both games today. Stars – Joey Reiss, Billy “The Dark” Knight, Mike Miller and on a tantalizing cannon type shot – Kurt “The Baron” Von Mach.
The Montreal Canadians have only two single digit numbers left, that are not retired.
