“A” LEAGUE WEEKLY UPDATE – FEBRUARY 1, 2018

FLYERS    6   SHARKS   5

4-3 Flyers entering the final stanza as goals abound!   Center Brian Moore with the trick for the victorious Flyers.  Line-mate Mike “King of the Road” Miller with the deuce.  Pat “The Beast” Wosek with a blast from the right point!  Returning from his two week sabbatical – Billy Mac Jr. with a two goal game for the Sharks.  Singles for John Siterlet, Mike Ala and the charismatic – “Downtown” Jimmy Brown.

BRUINS   5    HABS   0

Down three points to the top spot Habs late in the season – this was basically a must win game for the Bruins.  They did not disappoint!  Deploying their “Center Lock” defensive strategy, the Bruins completely dominate the Habs!  Puck stopper Rodney Heid was simply outstanding in nets!  High, low shots, zero rebounds – it didn’t matter.  He stopped them all!  Providence call up Degan with a two goal game.  Singles for Rex Baker, John McNeilly and Chuck Bowers.  Three assist games for John Cornish and sub Marcel Dimitire.  Absolutely zero highlights for the Habs in this penalty free game.

HAWKS   1   WINGS   0

Returning from parts unknown – Hawks sub Robbie Duff with the games only goal!  Rob was subbing for Captain John “Shifty” Shelton who apparently came down with food poisoning during lunch today.  Not good!  No small feat – shutting out this powerful scoring machine called the Wings!  “Smoking” Joe Polizzi was up to the task as he played a brilliant game in nets!  Wings sub net-minder Chris “Bea” Arthur with a stellar game in nets.  For the second consecutive week the Wings played without Captain Ryan Boyette as he remains in concussion protocol.  Ryan hopes to return next week.

SHARKS   2    BRUINS   2

Da Sharks play a much better defensive game, as sub Tim Craddock scores late in the final period for the tie.  Scoring machine John Siterlet with the Sharks initial marker.  John McNeilly and sub Marcel Dimitire, with his Dad Dennis in attendance, score for the men in yellow.  Both goalies Billy Schaugg and Rodney Heid with excellent games in nets!

HABS   8    HAWKS   2

Oh – somebody had to pay after the Habs game one debacle!  Sorry Hawks!  Center Bryan Prentice with the tour du chapeau.  Dr. Nate McNaughtry with the deuce.  Singles for subs Mike Garlick and “Vin” Scully.  Winger Curt Lesnau with a behind the net, high backhand off of the goalie for the Habs initial goal.  This was a move Lesnau showed to opponent Wayne Gretzky way back in the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament at the Le Colisee in Quebec!  Marty Papesh and sub Robbie Duff with the Hawks markers.  No trips to the sin bin for either team.

FLYERS   5    WINGS   2

The Flyers score three unanswered final period goals for the W!  Deuces wild for Brian Moore and Pat Wosek.  Mike Miller also with a goal.  Goaler Kirk “Captain America” Larson was outstanding in nets and also picked up a helper to boot!  Big Rob Rowling and “Midtown” Mikey Brown score for the Wings who were held to only two goals in today’s contests!

A true fact!
Stan Bowman- the son of Scotty, is the current Vice President and general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks.
Stan is named after the Stanley Cup!
When he was young, he was always called Stanley Cup Bowman!
As a four year old, Stanley Cup Bowman was crushed when he found out his real name name was Stanley Bowman NOT Stanley Cup Bowman!
Nice job Scotty!
