CAPTAINED BY PAUL GILES, MYSELF AND SOME MEMBERS OF THE MICHIGAN STING,
FACED OFF AGAINST THE SPECIAL NEEDS MICHIGAN FLYERS TEAM THIS
PAST SATURDAY IN ST. CLAIR SHORES.
A GREAT TIME WAS HAD BY ALL!
“GENTLEMAN” DON COURTLEY WAS THE STING MVP!!
RIP THE GOLDEN JET!
WINGS 1 HAWKS 1
A goalie clinic put on by Dave Gaskey of the Wings and sub Hawks goalie Billy Papciak! Mike Lawson of the Wings with the games first goal. Randy Dunaj with the Hawks game tying goal.
HABS 5 BRUINS 2
Complete French domination this game as they jump out to a well earned 4 zip lead and dismantle the Bruins! Left winger Tom Hines with this first career tour du chapeau! Defenseman Timmy “Dutch” Schultz and Kenny Wilkins also score. Right winger John Perini with three helpers. The overmatched Bruins receive goals from Joe Plati and sub Mike Garlick. The Bruins were minus their top three forwards this week, as Steve Lemieux and Jeff Tracy are out with lengthy upper body injuries and Chuck Mouraine was enduring as outpatient medical procedure. The Habs play the game with nine players and three D. This was a recurring theme for the Habs in the early weeks of the first half season. A simple subtraction by addition. I am aware of two late leagues that play at Troy, that if you do not field a full compliment of ten players, you start the game minus a goal – down 1-0. Hmm. This was a penalty free game.
FLYERS 3 SHARKS 0
The league’s leading scorer Robert Stempian scores his first of two goals a minute into the game and power forward Kenny Perko with the Flyers final goal. Bobby Rutkoske with a relatively light workload shutout. No Sharks sightings.
HAWKS 4 HABS 1
Da Hawks play a great game as they spread out their scoring. Mark Smyth, Eddie “The Eagle” Higgins, Gerry Krause(PP) and sub Larry “School Boy” Rowe(EN) all dent the twine for the Hawks. Once again sub goalie Billy Papciak with a great game in nets! Al Pyc with the Habs lone goal, as just maybe, their three D were tired this game?
FLYERS 3 WINGS 1
The up and coming Flyers, with their sights still on first place with only two weeks(4 Games) remaining in the season sweep on the day! Robert Stempian, Jimmy George and sub Adam Godard(PP) score for the Flyers. Again – a light workload for goalie Bobby Rutkoske. Still not looking right in a Wings jersey, as opposed to a Sharks jersey – Bruce ‘The Enabler” Gooel with the Wings marker.
BRUINS 5 SHARKS 0
The Bruins run roughshod over the Sharks! The last three games these two teams have played each other, the Mike Schlimgen and his band of Bruins have defeated the Sharks and only allowed 1 goal, 1 goal and today’s shutout! Left defenseman Keith Lutz with an end over end – you could see Cooper on the puck, with the Bruins first goal. Mom was in attendance, as she always is and was so excited she started doing the one person WAVE! Joe Plati and subs John Higgins and Cheap Trick guitarist sub Rick Neilson with singles in this penalty free game. Last week the toothless Sharks only scored one goal each game. I’m sure it’s happened before, but I do not remember when a team was shutout in both games as the Sharks were today! Disgruntled Sharks goalie Brian Miller entered the handshake line before the final buzzer sounded and immediately left the ice. It was a somber Sharks locker room today.
