Swift center Sammy Bonanno scores on the games first shift to send the Sharks to the W! Ben Haynes and long standing Captain Steve Dietrich with final period goals. Hoser Howard Smith and with the goalie pulled and Mike Harke score for the Frenchmen. Both goalies – Superman and sub “Ticker” with solid games between the pipes.
FLYERS 2 WINGS 0
The Wings were flying high after their double dip victory last week – only to see goalie Mike Haines and his Flyers teammates shut them down! Nice game Mike! Adam Godard and Robert Stempian lit the red light for the Flyers, who added to their two point playoff start. The Wings only had one annotation on the score sheet – sub Ken Debus with a solo roughing minor penalty.
HAWKS 8 BRUINS 0
The reeling Hawks got super right this game! Pat “Crazy Legs” Berry and Keith Foucher each with the hat trick! Singles for Billy Hagen and Kenny Perko. Bobby Rutkoske with the seven save shutout. No Bruins highlights.
HAWKS 3 WINGS 3
This was a very high flying and entertaining game! Mark Smyth ties the game up with just three minutes left in the game for the Hawks! The red hot Pat Berry and Billy Hagen with the Hawks first two markers. Wings Captain Brian Belloli(PP), Dave Spiess and sub Ken Debus do the honors for the Wings. Fresh off his two game suspension – Hawks Captain Billy Hagen with a solo roughing minor infraction.
FLYERS 2 SHARKS 1
Both goalies – Mike Haines and Superman repeatedly standing on their heads this game! Mike Haines and the Flyers prevail. Robert Stempian and John Dooley score for the top spot Flyers, as Captain Ryan O’Rourke enters the locker room postgame bellowing – “Who’s better than the Flyers!” Mike Krueger with the lone Shark goal.
HABS 1 BRUINS 1
Steve Lemieux of the Bruins scores on his first shift of the game, only to see Kenny Wilkins of the Habs find the back of the net 15 seconds later! Goalies Brian Miller of the Bruins and sub “Ticker” of the Habs took over the game from there! This was a penalty free game.
In 1966 the NHL doubled its size from 6 to 12 teams.
