WEEK THREE – PLAYOFFS
HABS 1 FLYERS 0
Doing his best Ken Dryden impersonation – Sir Kevin Beebe shuts out the extremely explosive Flyers! Sir Kevin stood on his proverbial head in this contest, swatting away attempt after attempt by the Flyers! Jeff “Dick” Tracy tommy guns in the games only goal midway through the final stanza for the Habs. Flyers puck stopper Mike Mostyn was almost equally as effective as Sir Kevin, as he allowed just one disc by him.
WINGS 3 BRUINS 0
Another playoff shutout, as Wings net minder Mike Schlimgen stones the Bruins with his brilliant play in nets. Rob “The Rifleman” Duncan, Marty Sell and Grand Rapids call up Vigi do the honors for the Wings. No Bruins highlights.
HAWKS 3 SHARKS 1
Mark Smyth goes top shelf 49 ticks into he game as the Hawks upend the Fish. “Gentleman” Don Courtley scores the Hawks final two markers. Goalie “Sugar” John Marchin with a stellar game in nets for the Hawks. Not to be outdone by Jeff “Dick” Tracy – Sharks sub “Hymie” Weiss also uses his Thompson machine gun and rat-a-tats-tats the Sharks only marker in this penalty free game.
FLYERS 5 SHARKS 3
The top spot Flyers find their offense this game as John Zuccarini records the hat trick. Singles for Mike Ala and Terry Massserant. Back from a two week secretive sabbatical – Jimmy “Boog” Powell with a two goal game. Ben Haynes with the Sharks middle marker. Powell has been the beneficiary all year of the exquisite play making of lineman Kevin Mahon. Kevin – making like Adam Oats – had the hat trick assist in this game, after his seven assist effort in last weeks doubleheader. Nice job Kevin!
BRUINS 2 HABS 1
Bruins score both their goals within a three minute first period span and rely on the excellent puck stopping of Bobby Rutkoske as both teams split for the day. Randy Debuel and sub Steve “Mario” Lemieux tally for the men in yellow. As in game one – Jeff “Dick” Tracy with the Habs only goal. Both goalies – Bobby Rutkoske and Sir Kevin Beebe with noteworthy performances in nets. No trips to the sin bin for either team.
WINGS 3 HAWKS 1
The Wings sweep for the day behind the outstanding goalie efforts of Mike Schlimgen. As in game one, Mark Smyth scores for the Hawks to give them a 1-0 lead entering the final period. The Wings respond with three goals in three minutes, late in the final period. Wings sub Vigi with he deuce. Barry Pionarck with the game winner. No trips to the sin bin for either squad.
